• Leadership of multiple cross-functional teams comprised of electrical, chemical, material science, mechanical, software, and systems engineers to ensure successful project execution
• Provide experienced technical expertise and assistance to other engineers and support personnel
• Design, develop, and provide support for innovative technologies from first principles to production
• Work under the direction of Program Managers, and alongside Principal Investigators or Project Engineers
• Initiate and cultivate corporate relationships to spur additional research opportunities
• Author white papers and proposals as well as provide support documentation of projects
• Provide both engineering and project leadership as well as hands-on engineering and development to ensure task completion
• Ensure that designs comply with relevant safety and industry regulations or applicable military standards
• Must wear appropriate PPE as needed and adhere to all safety standards
• Physical Requirements: Work is performed in an office/lab/warehouse environment. Must have the ability to lift up to 30 lbs. and work with hands solving hands-on mechanical engineering tasks
• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Engineer with 15+ years’ experience in state-of-the-art research, design and development engineering
• Minimum of 5 years of experience leading multidisciplinary R&D engineering teams
• Demonstrated ability to employ first principles in design concept development across multiple engineering disciplines
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams to develop state-of-the-art technologies
• Demonstrated ability to take a design from concept to production
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, autonomously driven atmosphere
• Demonstrated ability to write and win research opportunities
• Experience designing devices, or systems around thin film technologies
• Ability to convert internally developed technologies into profitable innovations
• Must possess theoretical and practical technical and analytical thinking skills with a detail-oriented approach
• Demonstrated ability to self-manage assigned project tasks to meet schedule
• Ability to both lead and conduct hands-on engineering and development
• Ability to create quality concise technical reports
• Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
• Demonstrated ability to learn new skills
• Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen
• Working practical knowledge of AS9100
• Experience as Principal Investigator on multiple government-sponsored projects
• Experience designing and/or implementing innovative thin film coating technologies
• Creation and development of patented technologies
• Experience in the defense or aerospace industries
• Ph.D. or equivalent degree with a published thesis
• Experience developing and executing test plans for MIL-STD requirements
• Ability to obtain a SECRET security clearance
• FE certificate or PE license in Engineering
• Education: Master’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Material Science, or Chemical Engineering with 15 years of relevant experience
• Experience with Solid Works CAD
• Experience with 3D printing, rapid prototyping and testing
• Experience with machine tools and machine shop operation
• Hands-on mechanical assembly or fabrication experience
• Experience with various fabrication methodologies
• Experience with various engineering sensing, testing, and analysis technologies
